Orc Slingers Released

Hi all,

I’m back and really enjoying my break. As an added bonus, I’ve had plenty of time to work on the Orc models I’m revamping. I’ve just finished the new Orc Slingers, which you can see below. You can download them here: Orc Slingers.

I’m slowly working my way through updating the Orcs, as shown below. The dash, dash, plus system is just my way of marking which models have been updated and which ones I’ll be working on next.

I still have all the Characters, War Machines, and Beasts to update, so there’s still quite a bit to do. However, by far, the Unit’s Folder is the largest section of the bunch. Once that’s done, I’ll be well over halfway finished!

The next set of models I’ll be working on are the Orc Saws, the faction’s elite warriors. I can reuse the basic Orc models and equipment I’ve already created and simply add a lot more detail. Model-wise, the main difference between Grunts and Saws is that Saws carry their signature saw blades and have a lot more armour—or ‘More Metal,’ as the Orcs call it. So, all I have to do is add the extra pieces of equipment to the existing model and then I’m done, which shouldn’t take too long.

Moving away from the models, I’ve also been working on the main rules and the Orc Codex. One of the most exciting things I’ve been developing is the ‘Epic Wounds’ system.

One of my pet peeves in tabletop and computer games is that heavily wounded monsters and characters fight just as effectively as they do when they’re fresh at the start of a battle. In reality, they should barely be able to fight back when heavily wounded. I’m hoping the new ‘Epic Wounds’ system will fix this and change the game in three significant ways.

  1. Characters and monsters will cost fewer points.
  2. Players will need to be more careful about when to bring their characters and large monsters into play, as they’ll lose their full impact after a few rounds of combat.
  3. Regular units will get a boost, as they won’t suffer from Epic Wounds. Even at half strength, they’ll fight just as effectively as they did at the start of the battle.

Happy New Year—let’s hope it’s a good one!
