Shadow Land Troll

Hi all,

It’s only going to be a short one today, as I don’t have much to report.

I’ve been working on the new Shadow Land Trolls, and they’re a very different kind of model to what I’m used to.

(He does look a little sad there…)

As you can see, the model isn’t just three-dimensional—it has complex curves, which make it quite difficult to work out how to put it together.

By the way, if you’re wondering why only half of the model is assembled, it’s because if one side is right, then it stands to reason that the other side will be too—and this approach also saves time.

So unlike other models I’ve made, the only way to make sure the different parts all fit together is by estimating, building it up, and seeing if it all fits together. With each attempt, I make small adjustments to the model sheet, print it off, and start the whole process again.

I’ve quickly thrown together a collage of all the different test versions I’ve made.

I think I’m just about done with the general shape now, and with the right tweaks, I’ll be able to create alternate poses, faces, clothes and add in some rocks they can throw at their enemies.

Unintentionally, I also deviated from my original design and added that huge extended gullet—which I actually prefer, so I’m going to run with that, I think.

I’d love to get them finished next week. However, if I can’t, they’ll have to wait, as I’m off on a short break. So, it could take another three weeks, but I’ll do my best to finish them before going off on my holiday.

That’s it from me today — until next time, take care!
