Iron Mother
Right then—the next and final model to work on for the Shadow Land Orcs is their tyrannical Iron Mother, which will, without a doubt, be the most complex model I’ve ever created.
She’s going to be huge for this game—currently looking at around 8cm wide and high, and roughly 10cm long, which is massive at this scale.
She will have many different parts. The Iron Mother sits high in a massive, armoured cart filled with putrid liquid, surrounded by her writhing brood. This giant Snort will rest upon a throne of iron and bone, sustained by the flesh of her victims, dragged back by her lads’ raids.
So, there’s plenty to work on—her body, her young, the throne, the cart and its wheels, and more. On top of that, I’ll be creating a range of add-ons so players can personalise their models. Thankfully, I can reuse some parts from older kits, such as the chariot components.
I’ve already created the model layout, and from that I’ll map out all the different parts on paper to build a white test model. This helps me get the proportions right, which usually takes a few attempts. Once I’m happy with the structure, I’ll move on to colouring and refining the core parts. Finally, I’ll add different Iron Mother variations and additional customisation options.
Anyway, I’d better get cracking!
